Ensuring quality care in the community: Education and training
A “home first approach” to complex care recognises that everyone who has a continuing healthcare need has the right to choose to receive care in their own home, while maintaining access to their community, with their family and friends around them. Over the last decade advances in care and the understanding of how it can be effectively delivered have improved, meaning many of these health conditions have no time limitations.
Therefore, an ongoing challenge for commissioners of complex care services and individuals who hold their own Personal Health Budget (PHB) is how to ensure the content and quality of a care providers training and ongoing staff supervision, remains in line with current best practice.
For over 12months we’ve been working alongside the Long Term Ventilation (LTV) Team from the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals to ensure current best practices are applied to our training and service delivery in support of individuals who wish to live at home and have a requirement for support with invasive ventilation via a tracheostomy.
As a result, our senior nursing team were recently invited by King’s Health Partners Health Partners (KHP) Cardiovascular and Respiratory Partnership to deliver a lecture at their “Tracheostomy Invasive Ventilation in the Community” workshop.
This was an exciting and dynamic, in person 2-day program for clinicians and AHPs to explore how to enable a quality of life for people who require long term invasive ventilation in the community.
We were asked to contribute to workshop program with a lecture on “Ensuring quality care in the community: Education and training”
